In years past, April was defined by enjoying the warmer weather outdoors, gathering with family for holidays, getaways over spring break, and the beginning of baseball season. This year we find ourselves in a unique and difficult predicament: how to stay entertained without venturing beyond our four walls.

We recently surveyed 1,549 of our members aged 18 to 69 to gain an understanding of which content is currently providing a bright spot in the midst of social distancing and which TV shows, movies, and sports broadcasts they were anticipating but are now delayed.

Just over half of those we surveyed (52%) have been watching innovative entertainment content that has cropped up as a result of isolation, with our respondents under 40 most avid in this regard (60%). The most common types of this content being watched are COVID-19 benefit concerts, musician pop-up live streams, vlogging from late-night hosts and John Krasinski’s “Some Good News.” These impromptu performances seem to be making an impact, with happy and hopeful arising as the most common emotions after viewing.

Additionally, two-thirds indicated that a form of entertainment content they were looking forward to has now been delayed due to COVID-19, particularly TV shows, movies, and live sports broadcasts (such as MLB, NBA, NHL, Olympics).

TV shows our respondents are highly anticipating that have been delayed include The Walking Dead, Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS, Supernatural, American Idol, Survivor, The Voice, The Amazing Race, and/or the latest installments in the Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise.

On the movie front, our respondents look forward to seeing Black Widow, Mulan, No Time to Die, Fast 9, Wonder Woman 1984, and new Marvel Cinematic Universe movies in a theater at a future date.

In the meantime, streaming services have been coming in clutch with new content lately. Tiger King is by far the most common new TV show watched, with our respondents also enjoying watching Ozark, Outlander, and/or Schitt’s Creek. As for streaming movies, Onward, which debuted earlier than expected on Disney+, is  also providing a pleasant distraction.

If you’d like a break from watching TV, check out our timely content!
