If there’s one phrase to sum up the new school year, it’s “what a difference a year makes!” Curious to hear directly from parents about how their back-to-school spending has shifted and what learning curves they are still mastering, we surveyed 1,055 parents of school aged children August 4-10.
When it come to spending differences this year, with over three-quarters of these parents indicating their child will be kicking off the school year with a virtual component, perhaps not surprisingly, clothing is the category parents are more apt to spend “less” money on than last year (45%). As for categories that may experience a lift this BTS season, at least one-in-four anticipate a bigger spend on educational/remote learning supplies and/or electronics this year.
However, despite all of the change and uncertainty, there’s one tradition the majority of parents plan to continue in order to provide them with a key memento during a tumultuous year. More specifically, nearly six-in-ten parents will be taking a back-to-school picture at their homes (57%).
