With back to school season in full swing, we surveyed over 1,100 parents of children under 18 to gauge how involved their kids are with back to school shopping. Turns out there’s one particular type of item that kids have strong opinions on and it’s not notebooks & pens.

By far, the top item category that kids squabble with their parents over budget is clothing. Secondarily, a quarter of parents pinpoint electronics such as cell phones, tablets, and laptops.

Also on the topic of new wardrobes, six-in-ten parents claim their children insisted on picking out all their back to school clothes before they became teenagers.  A quarter of parents have it easy: they’ve still got free rein to select their kids’ outfits.
