New Swagbucks Survey Revealed Americans’ Top New Year’s Resolutions and How Long They Say They Will Try to Keep Them

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 24, 2019 — In the game of love, sex wins. That is, at least, true for the 90 percent of American men who said that sex is the No. 1 thing they would be excited to receive for Valentine’s Day this year. But American women have other ideas: They rank a romantic dinner, a weekend getaway, flowers or chocolate over sex.

Swagbucks Valentine’s Day Survey: Planning Dinner and a Movie? Not this year!

This comes as part of a new survey by Swagbucks, a rewards- and loyalty-program company operated by Prodege, LLC, that examined the top gifts people want to give and receive for Valentine’s Day this year. The national survey of 2,000 U.S. adults was conducted online by Prodege in January 2019.

Baby, Turn the Lights Down Low

The No. 1 gift people are planning to give? A romantic dinner, with both men (92 percent) and women (90 percent) selecting this as their top choice. Sex is a close second: 81 percent of men and 79 percent of women plan to “share the love” this Valentine’s Day.

What else is on the gift list?

Men will be giving:

  • Flowers — 81%
  • Chocolate — 76%
  • Jewelry — 61%

Women will be giving:

  • Chocolate — 61%
  • Weekend Getaway — 55%
  • Clothes — 55%

The survey also found that three-quarters of Americans hope to receive something in return for their gift. Almost half (46 percent) are looking forward to sex, followed by a gift or dinner.

Just a Small Token of My Love

The vast majority of Americans (87 percent) agree that Valentine’s Day is not when they spend the most money on their significant other, and few will be breaking the bank:

  • $50 to $99 — 25%
  • $25 to $49 — 22%
  • $100 to $149 — 20%

They’re also not expecting to receive elaborate gifts: 26 percent expect a gift costing $50 to $99 and 25 percent expect a gift in the $25 to $49 range. Almost half (49 percent) don’t care if they receive a gift that cost less than the one they purchased.

“It’s interesting to see how Americans choose to celebrate this romantic holiday,” said Chuck Davis, CEO and chairman of Prodege, LLC. “Swagbucks recognizes the importance of rewarding moments, and we’re happy to help our members earn a little extra to help celebrate in whatever way will be most meaningful to them.”

Valentine’s Day celebrators can use Swagbucks Local to find deals and cash back on local restaurant outings across the US. Shoppers can also earn Swagbucks on all their purchases from a wide selection of popular retailers through the Swagbucks site or by downloading the SwagButton.
