In our recent survey gauging perceptions of consumers’ readiness to begin re-integrating into society, we also asked which precautions they’d like to see various types of businesses take before they are comfortable visiting again.

Generally, the key precautions desired for a wide range of businesses (restaurants, bars, retail stores, gyms, movie theaters) are:

  • Re-arranging seating to be at least 6 feet apart
  • Limiting capacity to no more than half
  • Requiring masks/gloves for all employees
  • Ensuring the bathrooms are cleaned regularly throughout the day
  • Having an ample supply of disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer

As for additional safeguards specific to business type, 69% of patrons of retail shops would also like to see 6 feet distancing enforced in checkout lines. When it comes to gyms/fitness studios, seven-in-ten feel it’s necessary to disinfect fitness equipment/group fitness rooms after each use and 61% think class sizes should be limited to ensure all participants are at least 6 feet apart.

Over half of those who frequent doctor/dentist offices at least a couple of times a month would feel more comfortable if patients and employees’ temperatures are taken upon arrival and/or patients are encouraged to wait in their car until they get a call saying the doctor is ready for them (56-60%).

The slight majority of those who visit parks/playgrounds regularly would like to have security on patrol to ensure these areas aren’t overly crowded (52%).
