This International Women’s Day, Prodege surveyed 1,500 working women across the United States using our DIY research platform Pollfish to better understand how women really feel about work, life, and everything in between. What we heard was honest, relatable, and surprisingly hopeful. The data shows progress, pressure, and optimism all at once. In other words, real life.

One thing came through loud and clear. Support matters. 78% of women say they are somewhat or very likely to stay with a company that actively supports women’s advancement and work life balance. That is not just a nice insight. It is a business one. When companies invest in women, women invest back.

And for working moms, the challenges stretch far beyond the workday. Their top struggles include lack of personal time at 41%, financial pressure at 39%, guilt about time away from children at 32%, the mental load of managing a household at 32%, and missing important moments and events at 29%.

These numbers feel familiar because they reflect what so many women experience every day. It is not just about juggling tasks. It is about carrying responsibility everywhere, all the time.

It was also extremely clear that work-life balance is another area where reality and optimism collide. Overall, 55% of working women claim that they are either at least somewhat or very satisfied with their work/life balance, even though more than 40% indicate that they spend 35+hours a week on work-related activities. Boomers top the satisfaction chart, while Gen Z trails behind as the least satisfied.

There is a clear tipping point. Women who work more than 45 hours a week are much less satisfied overall. Balance is not about doing more. It is about having boundaries that actually work.

When asked whether they feel supported as a woman in their current workplace, 54% said yes. That is meaningful progress, but it also means nearly half still do not. Looking back over the past three years, 33% say their workplace experience has somewhat or significantly improved, while 50% say it has stayed the same.

Momentum is building. It just needs to keep going. Feeling valued also plays a huge role in how women experience work. Women say they feel most appreciated when they receive recognition for their contributions, trust from leadership, flexibility in how and when they work, and fair pay with equal opportunity for growth. It turns out feeling valued is not about flashy perks. It is about being seen, trusted, and supported.

But, at the end of the day, it’s not all about work, right? We wanted to know what they do outside of work – and what drives them.  When asked, “If you had one completely obligation-free day, what would you do? Top answers included resting and recharging, catching up on sleep, enjoying hobbies, spending time with family or friends, and focusing on self-care. And when asked which luxury service they would choose for a month, cleaning services came out on top, especially for women with children.

Sometimes the dream is not a vacation. It is a clean house and a quiet hour.

Finally, when women were asked what would make the biggest positive difference in their workplace experience, the answers stayed consistent. Better work-life balance, more flexibility, stronger leadership support, fair compensation, and clearer paths for growth and advancement rose to the top.

The message is simple. Support shows up in policies, leadership, and everyday culture.

At Prodege, Pollfish makes it possible for organizations to quickly capture authentic voices through DIY research that is fast, flexible, and scalable. This study reflects our belief that insight is most powerful when it drives understanding and action.

International Women’s Day is a moment to celebrate achievements, but it is also a moment to listen closely and build better workplaces for the future. The voices of 1,500 working women remind us that progress is happening, expectations are evolving, and the opportunity to make work better has never been clearer.

Here’s to the women who lead, build, balance, and inspire. And to the insights that help move us forward together.

Happy International Women’s Day.
