Executives at nine South Bay companies were named Tuesday as semifinalists in the 2014 Greater Los Angeles Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year award, which spotlights business creators who have had exceptional successes in the areas of innovation, financial performance and commitment to their communities.

In all, 28 semifinalists have been selected to compete for the award, considered one of the world’s most prestigious honors in the world of business. The winner will be announced at a June 17 awards gala in Beverly Hills.
The local semifinalist are:

• Josef Gorowitz, chief executive officer of Prodege in El Segundo, which operates several Web portals such as SwagBucks.com that enable users to earn virtual currency when they search the Web, shop online, watch videos and the like.
