As a follow-up to our earlier data on attitudes towards upcoming travel, we recently fielded additional research to see if the latest developments with COVID-19 have led to further uncertainty about upcoming trips.
Our latest findings revealed that there’s been an increase in trip cancellations and postponements in recent weeks:
- 74% with a trip between April and June have canceled or postponed their trip (vs. 60% previously)
- 34% with a trip between July and September have canceled or postponed their trip (vs. one-in-five previously)
As for when they will reschedule these trips, nearly half of those with a postponed trip originally slated for April-June (47%) will wait and monitor COVID-19 a bit longer before committing to a new date. A third hope to take the trip before the end of 2020, while 20% will likely wait until 2021.
Those with canceled trips between July and September are also most apt to take a “wait and see” approach before choosing new travel dates (44%). Three-in-ten would prefer to exercise caution and wait until 2021, while 25% remain optimistic that they’ll be able to reschedule before the end of 2020.
